Virtual Session Class Descriptions
Core Class
This is our normal pitching school small group lessons. Instructors will help pitchers improve fundamentals, speed, and command based on their needs. Students combine periodically to do drills, competitions, and mental game.
Long Practice
During the inseason do one long practice per week. During the offseason do three or four. Complete this practice as far in advance of the next game as you can. Pitch until you are tired, take a short break, then pitch until you are tired one more time.
Medium Practice
Do this when you have three or more practice days in a row. Do a long warm up and pitch until you get tired (first mechanical breakdown).
Short Practice
Do a short practice to save energy for competition, but still get your reps in and keep your feel. In the off-season, do short practices for the first few training sessions to ease your body into more demanding training.
Accuracy
Every class you will get a different accuracy workout to complete. You will track your results each pitch, seeing your progress the more classes you choose to come to! You’ll understand exactly what your go-to pitch or pitches are and where you need to improve.
Pitcher Strength and Conditioning
Coach Sarah Dec, BS in Exercise Science will take pitchers through a series of exercises to improve their overall strength, agility and power. She will cover injury prevention and help keep athletes healthy for a long career.
Spinning Pitches
For pitchers who either have learned how to throw this movement pitch but want to develop late break, or who are ready to learn a movement pitch for the first time. Pitchers will get personal feedback and learn new drills. To start learning movement pitches you must already have participated in 2+ sessions of pitching school within the last year, and/or be in at least 5th grade. Must have special permission otherwise.
Changeup
For either pitchers who would like to learn the changeup for the first time, or those who already learned the pitch but are focusing on improving command and deception. All-Star, and Championship program members welcome. No class size limit.
Sports Psychology for Pitchers
In this seminar Coach Sarah Dec, Masters in Sports Psychology, will teach pitchers how to think on the mound. Without a good mental game, talent and practice won’t amount to much. Sarah will teach you what it takes to go from good to great. You’ll learn all about what goes on in between your ears.
Guest Speaker Panels
They say the best way to learn is to copy the people that have achieved success. Every week we will gather together experts in various areas of softball. These will include current and former players, coaches at all levels, champions, and other leaders in the sport. Bring a pop, the rest of your family, kick your legs up and learn how to do it!
Endurance
If you want to stay in the game inning after inning, you’ll need to be able to keep your velocity and accuracy on point. Some endurance classes will be heavy on the pitch count, some we’ll tire your body out, then have you try to pitch strikes. Either way, you’re guaranteed an increase in toughness.
Power
Power = Strength + Speed. You’ll need to convert your athleticism to the pitching motion. During power classes we will learn explosive movements and try to convert them into MPH. These classes are light on the pitch count and high on the effort per pitch.
Competition
These classes will be all competition-filled game days. Since we aren’t playing at this point, we need to continue to build our mental-sharpness and mind. Plus, it’s fun.
Overhand Throwing Mechanics
Have you ever wondered why that throw looked weird, but couldn’t figure out why? Overhand throwing mechanics are often overlooked, but if you can’t perform proper mechanics, your risk of injury grows. Your ability to throw a runner out from the outfield diminished. Just like pitching, you always need to work on overhand throwing mechanics, no matter what your level.
